FAQs

What are the white spots on the bottom of my Philips kettle?

Depending on the hardness of the water in your area, small spots may appear on the heating element of your Philips Kettle when you use it. Read the article below to solve this.

Descale your kettle

The white spots are the result of scale build-up on the heating element and on the inside of the kettle over time. The harder the water, the faster scale builds up. Scale can occur in different colors. Although scale is harmless, too much scale can influence the performance of your kettle.

Descale your kettle regularly. It is best to descale every month if you live in a hard water district and every three months if you live in a soft water district.

Follow the steps below:

Fill the kettle with white vinegar up to one quarter of the MAX indication.

Add water up to the max indication.

Press the green tea button to heat up the water to 80˚C and then press the KEEP WARM button.

Empty the kettle after 30 minutes and rinse the inside thoroughly.

Repeat the descaling procedure if there is still some scale in the kettle.

How to clean the scale filter of my Philips kettle

Remove the filter and clean it under a running water faucet by gently brushing it with a soft nylon brush. You can also clean the filter by simply leaving it in the kettle while you descale the kettle.

Some kettles have a mesh that attracts scale from the water. This mesh can be cleaned by squeezing and turning it under a running water faucet. The scale filter is also dishwasher proof.

Can I use my Philips kettle without the anti-scale filter?

The anti-scale filter prevents scale particles from ending up in your drink and has a mesh that attracts scale from the water. Scale is not harmful to your health. You can use the Philips Kettle without the scale filter, however, scale may give your drink a powdery taste.
