FAQs

If your Philips Garment Steamer leaves stains, or you notice impurities coming out from it, there might be a simple solution. Find out how to solve this issue in the following lines.

Scale built up in the steamer

If your steamer is not descaled regularly, it is normal for scale to build up in your garment steamer, and this can cause it to release some impurities or produce stains.

To solve this, please descale your steamer. The descaling process depends on your product and series.

Chemicals or additives are added into water

If you used any chemical or additive with your Philips Garment Steamer, fill the water tank with water and allow it to steam out 1 full tank to rinse off chemical residues from the appliance.

For stains on the garment, rinse off any stains under running water.

For stains on the steamer head, wipe any deposits off the steamer head with a damp cloth.

Note: The chemical or additives (e.g. perfume, essential oil, vinegar, etc) cause damage to the appliance. Do not use any chemical or additive with your garment steamer.

High level of water hardness

Depending on where you stay, the water hardness level may be high and results in fast scale build-up in your garment steamer.

Ensure that water tank is emptied after a steaming session. It is recommended to use a combination of demineralized/distilled water (50%) mixed with tap water (50%).

At the start of a steaming session, set the steam setting to the MAX mode. Hold the steamer head away from the garment and press the steam trigger for 10 seconds to release the initial gush of water droplets.

Using the right type of water helps prolong your Philips garment steamer or steam iron's lifespan. Please read along to find some tips and tricks.

Water type to use

Your Philips steam iron or garment steamer has been designed to be used with soft water. However, if you live in an area with hard water, fast scale build-up may occur.

Therefore, to prolong the lifespan of your iron or steamer it is recommended to use distilled or RO water.

Please do not use perfumed water, water from the tumble dryer, vinegar, starch, descaling agents, ironing aids, chemically descaled water or other chemicals as they may cause water spitting, brown staining or damage to your steam iron or garment steamer.

To perfume your clothes we recommend you choosing one of the following options:

  • Using perfumed washing softener
  • Using essential oils (aromas) during washing
  • Spraying perfumed water after ironing or steaming

We recommend you to empty your Philips Garment Steamer’s water tank after using it. This will help preventing the formation of calcification and algae.

The mat or board cover that comes with your Philips Garment Steamer should not be washed. Washing it would damage the foam material in it.

If you would like to clean your mat or board, please use a moist cloth.

If you wonder how to properly use the glove that comes with your Philips stand garment steamer, please read here about it.

How to use the stand steamer’s glove

Your Philips stand steamer’s glove should be worn on the hand that is stretching the garment during steaming.

The purpose of this glove is to protect your hand from the hot steam.

If your Philips Stand Garment Steamer produces a croaking sound, please find our troubleshooting advice below to solve this issue.

The head or hose is horizontally positioned

When the hose of your Philips Garment Steamer is horizontal, the condensation in the hose might not flow back into the tank. This can cause a croaking sound.

In this case, please lift up the head of your stand steamer to straighten the hose vertically. This will allow condensation to flow back to the tank.

The hose forms a U shape

When the hose forms a U-shape, the condensation in it cannot flow back into the water tank. This can cause the head of the steamer to produce croaking sound. In this case, please lift the steamer head to straighten the hose vertically.

If the head of your Philips Stand Garment Steamer drips water, please read our troubleshooting advice below to solve this.

The head and/or hose is in a horizontal position

In this case, please lift the head of your stand steamer up in order to allow condensation to flow back to the tank. At the start of a steaming session, set the steam setting to be in MAX mode.

After this, hold the steamer head away from the garment and press the steam trigger for 10 seconds to release the initial gush of water droplets.

Heavy usage

If you have been using your stand steamer heavily for a long time, this can cause water condensation. If this happens, water will drip from the head.

To solve this, first let your steamer cool down. Then, remove the grill and press a dry cloth against the black surface to remove the condensed water.

When your Philips stand garment steamer leaves wet spots on your clothes, there might be a simple solution. Please find out in the following lines how this works.

Steam condensation inside the head of the steamer

It is normal to observe a few wet spots on the steamed clothes, especially when you just started steaming. This is due to steam condensation inside the head of your garment steamer.

Steam condensation (in case of using a mat or board):

Wet spots can also be caused by steam condensation on the mat or board after a long steaming session (this is only applicable if you are using a board or a mat).
